Commissioner would like to see pools fenced (Posted Today 12:27 pm)
County commissioner Steve Berry remembers too well the day he found his young son face-down in a swimming pool. The boy turned out fine, thanks to some frantic CPR. But Berry doesn't want that to happen to anyone. He's researching the possibility of requiring fences for all swimming pools, considering so many above-ground ones are popular in the county.
Granbury scrimmages moved (Posted Today 11:49 am)
The Granbury Pirates' scrimmages against Paschal Friday night have been moved to Granbury Middle School because the turf on Johnny Perkins Field at Pirate Stadium is too moist after the recent rains.
The freshmen will scrimmage at 5 p.m., followed by the junior varsity at 6 and the varsity at 7.
Among workout highlights this week, coach Scotty Pugh and his staff have taken a closer look at special teams and will do some kicking in Friday's scrimmage. Kason Peterson, a third-year varsity member, will handle the kicking chores.
Quarterback Cody Sillivent had his redshirt status removed and will scrimmage against Paschal. He did not play against Frisco last week and was not receiving contact in previous practices because he was recovering from a collarbone injury.
Also, wide receiver Brandon Wood began practicing with the varsity this week. He had missed previous workouts with a broken hand.
Students to meet teachers tonight (Posted Today 08:03 am)
Granbury school district elementary and intermediate students and parents will be able to meet their teachers this evening. Brawner, Oak Woods, Mambrino, Acton Elementary and Baccus students will meet their teacher tonight (elementaries, 5-6:30) and intermediates (5:30-7). Emma Roberson Elementary second and third graders will meet their teachers from 5-6. School starts Monday morning.
Community Theatre auditions set (Posted Tue 09:17 am)
Auditions for the Granbury Opera House Community Theatre production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" will be Sunday from 5:30-8 p.m. at the theater on the square.
Also at that time, auditions will be held for several community parts in the gothic thriller "Dracula," which will also feature members of the Opera House professional acting cast.
"Arsenic" will be performed Sept. 17-18 and 24-25. "Dracula" will run Oct. 28-31.

County commissioners have marked Saturday, Sept. 13 as the next County Dump Day. Local residents will be able to dispose of large items from 8-2 that day at the animal control lot off Bray Street west of Granbury.
